Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run - Group Shot

A team of 10 SRS runners and walkers were thrilled to join more than 3,700 participants from 177 companies in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run through downtown Fort Lauderdale on April 7, 2022. The run benefitted the United Way and started in Huizenga Plaza on Las Olas Boulevard. SRS runners included Jose Saye, Marcela Oviedo (and her son Augie), Moshe Laniado, Mercedes Civantos Capella, and Ryan Bancroft (son-in-law of Manny Synalovski). Walkers included Merrill Romanik, Chris Bray, Cristi Marin, and Alejandra Pallisso.

The architectural team designed their award-winning T-shirt, which placed second in the Landmark Building category. “It was an auspicious win for us, since the run looped its way past the three landmark building projects we redesigned: Broward County Main Library (originally designed by world-renowned architect Marcel Breuer), Southside School (built in the 1920s) and the historic Coca-Cola Bottling Plant building (built in 1939), all on Andrews Avenue,” said SRS Partner Merrill Romanik. SRS team members also placed second in the co-ed division of runners. Go, team!

IIDA Fashion Show - Group Shot

IIDA DressSRS was in the limelight at The Fillmore Miami Beach on Thursday, April 5 for Design Mix 2020(2), a fashion show produced by and for members of the International Interior Design Association.

IIDA’s annual Design Mix event planned for 2020 (and suspended due to COVID) was ultimately celebrated this spring. Its ‘90s style theme challenged fashionista interior design professionals to partner with a materials provider and create an original product.

IIDA members Merrill Romanik, architect/interior designer, and Alejandra Pallisso, interior designer, worked with SRS office administrator Cristi Marin to research, design, and assemble plastic laminates into choker style chains, popular in the ‘90s. The “chains” were formed with laser-cut loop and circlet Formica plastic laminate shapes manufactured by McKenzie Craft LLC. When attached to each other, the “chains” resulted in a “fabric,” which was cut to create a sparkling dress. SBC Laser Cutting & Etching handled the laser cutting.

Merrill said the “Loope” dress was based on iconic tattoo chokers, symbols of royalty for thousands of years that depict the “delicate dance” between vulnerability and power. In the 1990s, tattoo chokers were part of a fashion statement that projected femininity, elegance, and fierceness.

Our glamorous onstage model was Lexie, daughter of SRS architect Steven Hatzidakis.
